Emeritus Professor Stephen Adei has revealed that the right kind of leaders Ghana needs are those with the heart of God.

He made this revelation while addressing young politicians at the Younger Generation Politicians and Leaders Conference held at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh on October 10, 2024.

According to Prof Adei, the leader Ghana needs is one who embodies integrity, character, and a deep commitment to Christian values, which he believes are essential for national progress.

He lamented that current political discourse, especially in an election year, often overlooks the fundamental qualities of character and competence in candidates. He urged Ghanaians to clearly define their expectations for leadership, stressing that the nation requires leaders who are not only skilled but also morally upright.

‘The leader Ghana needs is one who will put Ghana first,’ he stated, calling for individuals who prioritise national interests over personal gain.

The professor warned against leaders who are ‘power drunk’ or engage in immoral behaviour, asserting that true leadership should be rooted in service and sacrifice.

He called for a focus on candidates who can transform challenging situations into opportunities for growth and prosperity, saying, ‘Ghana needs leaders who are godly, full of the Holy Spirit.’

Professor Adei also criticised the rampant issues plaguing the nation, such as illegal mining (locally known as Galamsey), attributing it to a lack of love for the country among its leaders.

He insisted that integrity is not merely about legal compliance but aligns with divine expectations.

‘Integrity is not what the law says but what God expects from you,’ he remarked.

He urged voters to transcend tribalism and partisanship in their electoral choices, advocating for leaders who reflect the qualities that God desires.
