Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe has made a dramatic leap from the film industry into the world of diplomacy. The award-winning screen icon has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain.

Her nomination was announced as part of a major diplomatic reshuffle involving 15 individuals nominated for ambassadorial, high commissioner, and consul-general roles.

According to an official letter from the Office of the President, dated June 10, 2025, and signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, the appointments follow consultations with the Council of State. The letter directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate the necessary steps to process the nominees.

“She’s long graced our screens with elegance and passion, but now, Kalsoume Sinare is stepping into a new role this time, on the global stage,” a government source noted. “Her nomination reflects a growing recognition of cultural icons as credible ambassadors of national identity and influence.”

Before assuming her post, Sinare and the other nominees will undergo vetting and parliamentary approval.

If confirmed, she will be joining a growing list of Ghanaian public figures transitioning from public life and entertainment into diplomacy, contributing to Ghana’s soft power on the international stage.
