The inaugural West Africa Green Economy Roundtable & Awards (WAGER) ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra, bringing together policymakers, business leaders, financiers, academics, and civil society actors from across the sub-region to discuss sustainable growth pathways.
Organised by Pent Media Centre (Ghana) in partnership with African Consolidated Analytical Limited (Nigeria), the event was held under the theme, “Advancing Sustainable Development through Green Growth in West Africa.” It provided a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and recognition of individuals and institutions championing green innovation and environmental stewardship.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr Solomon Adjetey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, on behalf of the sector minister, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to driving the region’s clean energy transition, stressing the need for renewable energy adoption, green jobs, and stronger regional partnerships.
Several other speakers enriched the conversation. Apostle Dr Samuel Gakpetor, National Coordinator of the Environmental Care Campaign of The Church of Pentecost, emphasised the role of faith-based organisations in promoting sustainable practices. Apostle Prof. J. I. T. Buertey, representing the Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University, highlighted academia’s role in research and capacity building, while Dr Seth Appiah-Kubi, National Director of A Rocha Ghana, stressed the urgency of environmental conservation. Ing. Felix Atsrim, Global Editorial Board Chairman of Pent Media Centre, and Mr Paa-Kwasi Koomson, former Vice President of Bank of America, also underscored the importance of sustainability-focused dialogue and innovative financing.
A panel discussion further explored practical solutions. Mr Paul Kwesi Ocran of IFC Ghana discussed green housing and innovative financing models, Barima Acheampong Sarpong II (Asante Asamang chief) spoke on sustainable food systems and agribusiness, and Mr George Martey Okorley addressed the impact of climate change on living conditions.
The event concluded with the WAGER Awards, which recognised trailblazers advancing green growth across West Africa.
Pastor Dr Felix Dela Klutse, Director of Pent Media Centre, said WAGER would serve as a regional platform for collaboration and excellence in sustainability. He noted that “West Africa is at a critical point in balancing economic growth with environmental preservation,” and called for collective action to position the sub-region as a leader in sustainable development.
