Pastor Maxwell Adubofourh Asiedu, the Yennyawoso District Minister of The Church of Pentecost, has underscored the significance of fasting and prayer in helping believers connect with God in their spiritual journey.
“The more you fast and pray, the more you attune yourself to the frequency of God,” he remarked.
Pastor Adubofourh made this statement during a service with members of Grace Assembly on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, as part of the Church’s ongoing 14-day fasting and prayer programme.
The leadership of The Church of Pentecost has declared a global 14-day peroid of fasting and prayer, dubbed ‘Pentecost Week,’ under the theme “Experiencing the Unleashed Power of the Holy Spirit,” (Acts 2:32-33). This fortnight-long event, which began on Monday, May 26, 2025, is set to conclude on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
In his discussion on “Fasting,” Pastor Adubofourh explained that fasting is the act of abstaining from food and drink for a period of time. He referenced several biblical figures who engaged in fasting and prayer, emphasising its transformative power in achieving breakthroughs.
“Breakthroughs are typically received by those who commit themselves to fasting and prayer because these practices are catalysts for breakthroughs,” he affirmed, referencing Matthew 17:21.
The clergyman also described various types of fasting, including partial, absolute, full, selective, and cooperate fasting.
On the reasons Christians fast, Pastor Maxwell Adubofourh Asiedu noted that believers fast when facing God’s judgement (Psalm 51:1ff), to restore their broken relationship with Christ, and to intercede for others.
“We fast in response to personal challenges, during spiritual warfare, or when confronted with imminent dangers,” he added. He urged the congregation to cultivate a lifestyle of fasting and prayer, cautioning that, “a church that neglects fasting and prayer is a weak church.”
