The Church of Pentecost has commissioned a state-of-the-art fire station at Gomoa Yesukrom, near the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) in the Gomoa East District, to bolster emergency response services within the area and its environs.
The facility was officially handed over to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) by Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, during a commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Pentecost Convention Centre. The event brought together a host of dignitaries, including government officials, traditional leaders, and senior clergy.
The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak officially commissioned the facility with support from the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, and other key dignitaries including Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong (Acting Chief Fire Officer, GNFS), Hon. Dr. Desmond De-Graft Paitoo (Member of Parliament, Gomoa East Constituency), and Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom (District Chief Executive).
Also in attendance were Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi (General Secretary), Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe (Missions Director), Executive Council Members, heads of churches, and officers of the GNFS.
The Pentecost Fire Station project was birthed during the COVID-19 pandemic following a risk assessment that identified a critical gap in fire safety coverage in the Gomoa enclave since the nearest two (2) were located at the Kasoa overpass and Budumburam. It forms part of the Church’s “Possessing the Nations” agenda—the ten-year vision of the Church aimed at transforming every sphere of society with Kingdom values and principles.
The new fire station, executed within 18 months, is fully equipped with modern amenities, including administrative offices, an IT/Monitoring Room, conference room, four syndicate rooms, and separate crew rooms for male and female personnel. The facility is expected to significantly reduce emergency response times in Gomoa Yesukrom, Gomoa Fetteh, and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak commended The Church of Pentecost for what he described as a “timely and strategic contribution” to Ghana’s national safety infrastructure by constructing the newly commissioned Pentecost Fire Station at Gomoa Yesukrom.
“This facility could not have come at a better time,” he stated. “It will significantly improve emergency response times in Gomoa Yesukrom and surrounding communities, while also reducing the operational burden on the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the area.”
Hon. Muntaka noted that this latest intervention by the Church adds to a growing list of security-related infrastructure provided by The Church of Pentecost in recent years, adding that this level of partnership between faith-based institutions and the state should be encouraged and emulated.
Addressing the gathering, Apostle Eric Nyamekye stated that the commissioning of the fire station aligns with the Church’s broader commitment to national development and enhancing the national security infrastructure. He commended the Ghana National Fire Service for their dedication and reaffirmed the Church’s resolve to support state institutions.
The Chairman highlighted similar social interventions by the Church, including the construction of two police stations and two prison reformation centres in Ejura and Nsawam, with two more underway in Obuasi and Damongo. The Damongo facility is scheduled for commissioning in June 2025.
He further noted that from 2019 to 2024, the Church has provided 239 mechanised boreholes in deprived communities, serving over 110,000 beneficiaries. The Church is also constructing five new health facilities, including a specialist hospital, to complement the 12 already operational under its health ministry.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye reiterated that the Church’s growing investment in national infrastructure and community development is not a show of affluence, but a faithful expression of biblical values.
“We are doing all these not because we have in abundance,” he explained, “but to demonstrate the love of Christ and contribute meaningfully to national growth.”
Concluding his speech, Apostle Nyamekye officially handed over the PCC Fire Station to the Minister for the Interior, urging all stakeholders to play their part in supporting national institutions.
“As we officially commission this station, let us be reminded that safety is a shared responsibility. Firefighters will be here, ready to respond. But we, as a community, must continue to support them, respect their work, and take proactive steps toward fire prevention and emergency preparedness,” he said.
Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong, in her address, emphasised that the investment by The Church of Pentecost is a significant contribution to the safety and wellbeing of citizens and will greatly enhance the operational efficiency of the GNFS in the Gomoa enclave and beyond.
The acting Chief Fire Officer of GNFS stated: “For the first time in our history, a religious organisation has built and handed over a fully functional fire station to the Ghana National Fire Service,” Madam Ntow-Sarpong noted. “This facility is not only beautiful but meets high operational standards, and it is a testament to what faith-based institutions can contribute to national development.”
“This fire station brings us closer to the people we serve. It is a demonstration of how partnerships between public service and faith-based institutions can positively impact the entire nation,” she further stated.
