The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has called on Christian workers to embody both spirituality and professionalism in all their dealings.
‘Approach your jobs as kingdom assignments, executed to bring glory to God,’ he said.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Spiritual, Yet Highly Professional – The Case of Daniel,’ with scripture references from Daniel 5:11 and 2 Chronicles 16:9, Apostle Nyamekye explained that God seeks not only people who serve Him within the church but also those who excel in their roles in the broader society.
He urged Christians to see their professions as opportunities to advance God’s agenda on earth, noting that their work should be done with excellence as if under God’s watchful eye.
He said this at the climax of the 2024 Headquarters Management and Staff Retreat/Retirement Service held at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa-Fetteh.
Defining professionalism, Apostle Nyamekye described a professional as someone whose work requires a high level of education, training, and dedication. He emphasised that true professionalism is characterised by taking responsibility for one’s behaviour and working effectively with others.
Using Daniel as an example, he noted that Daniel was not only a skilled professional but also a deeply spiritual individual.
‘According to Daniel 1:19-21, Daniel’s intelligence and competence enabled him to serve in the corridors of kings, while his unwavering faith set him apart as a servant of God,’ he revealed.
Apostle Nyamekye pointed out that Daniel’s faithfulness somehow earned him enemies, as his integrity often stood in the way of others’ corrupt practices.
Citing Daniel 5:11-17, where Daniel’s professionalism and spirituality shone through when he interpreted the writing on the wall for King Belshazzar.
‘Daniel was not just a professional; he was highly spiritual, and this combination made him invaluable to the kingdom,’ Apostle Nyamekye remarked.
He called on Christians to emulate Daniel by striving for excellence in their professional fields while maintaining a strong spiritual foundation.
‘Let us all be highly professional and spiritual,’ he concluded, encouraging believers to be faithful in their work, knowing that their actions reflect their faith and glorify God.
Present at the service were Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi (General Secretary), Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe (International Missions Director), Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh (PEMEM Director/Executive Council Member) and Apostle Dr Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe (La Area Head/Executive Council Member).
