The Bible Society of Ghana (Ho Chapter), in collaboration with the Christian community and stakeholders in Aflao, successfully hosted a Donor Conference for Sign Language Bible Translation.
The conference was held on August 11, 2024, at The Church of Pentecost’s Shekinah Temple in Aflao, with the aim of raising funds for translating the Bible into sign language to benefit the deaf community.
A diverse group of stakeholders attended, including representatives from the Aflao Chapter GPCC, leaders of Christian organisations, security personnel, and members of the public.
The Aflao Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Michael Agyen Brefo, highlighted the transformative power of the Bible (Acts 20:32). He emphasised the project’s potential to impact the lives of persons with hearing impairments and the importance of making God’s word accessible to all.
The Volta Regional Operations Manager of the Bible Society of Ghana, Mr Richard Offei, in his address, stressed the significance of contributing to Bible translations and explained the extensive process involved. He noted that translating one Bible into a local language takes between 16 and 23 years and costs $20.00 per verse.
Mr Offei appealed to Christians to donate generously to the Bible translation project, ensuring sufficient Bibles to reach the unreached with God’s word.
