In collaboration with various churches, the Great Commission Movement of Ghana has successfully hosted the ‘Digital Champions Summit 2024’ at the Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra.

The day’s event aimed to equip Christian digital missionaries with modern evangelism techniques through digital media.

Dr Paul Nsiah, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, opened the summit with a sermonette, urging Christians to utilise digital platforms for evangelism.

He highlighted the slow growth of Christianity, just 0.1% increase over the last decade. He emphasised the need for greater digital outreach, referencing 1 Corinthians 9:22-23.

Mrs  Mary Bawa, Project Manager at the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), addressed the cyber threats facing online evangelism.

She cited Matthew 28:18-20 to underscore the potential of technology in reaching global audiences but warned of risks like phishing, hacking, and ransomware. She advised using multi-factor authentication, backing up data, and avoiding personal details for organisational accounts.

Mr Maximus Ametorgoh, Lead Facilitator and CEO of the Institute of Digital Marketing, described social media as the new mission field.

He recommended building personal websites, running effective email outreach, creating virtual congregations on social media, and using mobile apps for outreach, referencing Psalm 68:11.

Apostle Ebenezer Hagan, Youth Director of The Church of Pentecost, called on young Christians to become ‘digital champions’ by leveraging technology to spread the Gospel.

He encouraged them to use social media, blogs, and podcasts for evangelism, despite challenges like misinformation and cyberbullying. He mentioned the importance of being spiritually grounded, responsible, and innovative in their online activities.

The event featured breakout sessions on Social Media Evangelism, Live Stream Production, Using AI in Ministry, Short Film Ministry, and SMS Evangelism.
