The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, is advocating for dedicated budget allocations to state institutions to undertake continuous planned maintenance, rehabilitation, and renovation of existing infrastructure to save the country from financial waste.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who was recently appointed Chairman of the newly created Budget Committee of Parliament, stressed the situation where attention is often given to constructing new projects without a maintenance plan. This, he noted, results in significant financial losses as infrastructure does not serve its intended lifespan.
According to him, the phenomenon where everyone wants to start new projects for public praise, often ignoring already existing infrastructure in Ghana is worrying.
”I have seen rapid deterioration of a lot of infrastructure because of lack of maintenance so I have taken a decision that apart from building new projects, I will make a conscious effort to renovate the existing ones that are deteriorating”, he asserted.
He emphasized the need for Ghana as a country to intentionally set aside funds each year for the renovation of existing projects.
The MP who was speaking during a ceremony to commission a classroom block he rehabilitated at Labolabo D/A Basic School however pledged his commitment to dedicate some of his funds to renovate some dilapidated school structures and health facilities in the constituency.
