GPCC Delegation Visits Damongo 155 Armoured Regiment

The Savannah Regional Executives of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) have paid a courtesy call on Lt. Col. Philemon Addotey Hoffman, Commanding Officer (CO) of the 155 Armoured Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, at Damongo.

The delegation, led by the GPCC Regional Chairman and Sawla Area Head of The Church of Pentecost (CoP), was received by the Commanding Officer, along with Lt. Derrick Elikplim Davoe, the Adjutant, and SWO 2 Kingsley Boafo, the RSM of the command.

The GPCC delegation included Pastor Patrick Mensah, Head of Bole Mission for the Christ Apostolic Church, who also serves as the Regional Vice Chairman; Pastor Benjamin Addo-Boateng, Secretary to the Council and the Bole District Minister of The Church of Pentecost; Pastor Joseph Atta Achintre, an Executive Member of the Council and the Head Pastor of the Holistic Gospel Church, Damongo; and Pastor Francis Agbenyeke, the Buipe Head Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church.

Other members were Reverend Emmanuel Kumah, Damongo District Pastor og the Christ Apostolic Church, and Overseer Jones Dwomoh Amankwah, the Mandari District Minister of The Church of Pentecost.

Pastor David Amankwaa stated that the purpose of the visit was to welcome the new Commanding Officer to the station and to formally introduce himself and the Council members to his outfit.

He also mentioned that the Council, and the church, in general, is always ready to assist the command in any way possible.

Quoting from Psalm 127, Pastor Amankwaa noted that the scriptures affirm that God is the chief protector of the land and its borders, therefore, as the Army provides physical protection, there is a need for the Church to provide spiritual protection and covering through prayer, counseling, and teaching of the Word to augment and concretize the efforts of the Army.

Lt. Col. Hoffman thanked the Council for the visit and expressed his readiness for any engagement between the two institutions to ensure sustained peace and tranquility in the region.

He acknowledged that God is the Almighty, and therefore, members of his command belong to the Church and other faith-based organisations where they do fellowship regularly.

Touching on the challenge facing the command, the Commanding Officer indicated that the regiment has a persistent water challenge that poses a great threat in terms of health and sanitation, making life at the camp quite challenging.

He, therefore, appealed to the GPCC and the member churches, and other well-meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid in providing a constant source of water supply for their camp.

The GPCC Regional Chairman assured the command of the Council’s continued support in the discharge of their duties in the region through prayers and other support.

He further noted that the Council would engage other stakeholders to see how best they can help address the water challenge at the camp.

The Council donated bottles of water to the command and prayed for the leadership as part of the courtesy visit on March 30, 2023.

The 155 Armoured Regiment is headquartered in Damongo, the Savannah Regional capital, with the responsibility of ensuring peace and security in the region. This was necessitated after the Area gained a regional status through the Constitutional Instrument by the President of the Republic in 2019. The command has seen a change in leadership, and the current Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Philemon Adotey Hoffman, leads the command.
