Over 4,000 breast cancer cases are recorded in Ghana every year. Limited awareness of the disease, inadequate screening and treatment centres have been some of the factors driving the increase in infections. Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Chief Executive of Breast Care International, who stated this, said breast cancer had become a significant public health concern claiming the lives of many women in Ghana. Women urged to seek medical assistance early to avoid losing breast to cancer

The President of Breast Care International (BCI) has urged women to visit the hospital early to avoid losing their breasts. According to Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, many women avoid hospitals because of fear of losing their breasts, a scenario she sees as appalling. “A lot of women run away from the hospital because of Mastectomy, they don’t want to lose the breast we understand, so if you don’t want to lose the breast you have to come early to the hospital,” she urged. How foods wrapped in plastic sheets link to prostate, breast cancers, among others

I recently chanced on a video posted on Facebook by the renowned singer, Kofi Kinata lamenting how fante kenkey is now wrapped with plastic rubbers, then covered with the traditional plantain leaves before cooking on the fire. His concern was that this predispose the consumers to several ailments.  Indeed, this is a genuine concern.  The fact is that Ga Kenkey is also suffering from this same fate. Additionally, most of our foods prepared at home such as banku are all wrapped in plastic sheets. I had to educate my junior sister who studied catering in school not to wrap hot banku and foods in plastic rubbers.
