The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has called on Christians to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit in proclaiming the gospel, stressing that the Kingdom of God is demonstrated not merely by words but by divine power.
Apostle Obuobi made this call when he, together with his wife, worshipped with the Pentecost International Worship Centre Ablekuma on Sunday, March 15, 2025.
Preaching on the theme “The Gospel and Power,” the General Secretary explained that Jesus Christ set the ultimate example of a life empowered by the Holy Spirit, noting that believers are expected to follow the same pattern in their Christian walk and ministry.
Quoting Acts 1:8, he reminded the congregation that Jesus promised His disciples power through the Holy Spirit to enable them to become effective witnesses to the ends of the earth.
According to him, the ministry of Jesus clearly demonstrated the manifestation of divine power. He noted that Christ’s authority was evident in His teachings, which astonished listeners because He spoke with authority and not like the scribes.
Apostle Obuobi further explained that Jesus also demonstrated power through miracles, healing the sick and delivering those oppressed by demons, thereby confirming that the Kingdom of God operates through the power of God.
“The kingdom of God is not just a matter of talk but of power,” he emphasised, citing the apostle Paul’s teaching to highlight that the gospel must be accompanied by the demonstration of the Spirit’s power.
The General Secretary also spoke about the central message of the gospel; Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, which forms the foundation of salvation and must be proclaimed to all nations.
Reflecting on the events leading to the Day of Pentecost, he explained that Jesus instructed His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they were clothed with power from on high. This promise was fulfilled when the Holy Spirit descended upon them, empowering them to boldly proclaim the gospel.
He noted that the early church experienced remarkable growth because the apostles preached the gospel backed by the power of the Holy Spirit, resulting in miracles, healings and transformed lives.
Apostle Obuobi therefore urged Christians to recognise that they are carriers of the same divine power through the Holy Spirit.
