The President of The Church of Pentecost-Togo (Sister Church), Apostle Samuel Lawson, has challenged believers to maintain vibrant spiritual lives in an increasingly secular world, emphasizing that true Christian living goes beyond religious practice to daily communion with Christ.
In his presentation titled “Spiritual Life in a Secular World” at the Conférence des Ministres et Épouses (CME-Francophone) today [February 20, 2026], Apostle Lawson noted that modern society is progressively removing God from its systems of thought, normalizing sin, and elevating materialism and self-reliance over submission to the Creator. He warned that believers face the constant tension of living in the world without adopting its values, citing John 17:15-16.
“The challenge for Christians today is to remain spiritually awake, morally uncompromised, and focused on holiness in an environment that often distracts or misleads,” he said.
Apostle Lawson outlined the four pillars of victory to help believers thrive spiritually as “Affirmation of Identity” (that is recognizing oneself as an ambassador of God’s Kingdom), and “Renewal of the Mind” (that is filtering worldly influences through consistent meditation on Scripture). The others are: “Dependence on the Holy Spirit” (that is relying on God’s power, as human strength alone is insufficient for a transformed life) and “Uncompromising Influence” (that is being a light in all spheres of society, including work, school, and politics.
He drew inspiration from biblical and historical figures who thrived in challenging environments, including Daniel for loyalty, Joseph for integrity, Esther for strategic consecration, and Jesus Christ as the ultimate example of victory over temptation without retreating from the world.
Apostle Lawson also called on believers to adopt practical spiritual disciplines such as restoring family prayer altars, fasting, and daily Bible study. He stressed that living for God is a deliberate, personal choice, not something to be excused due to societal trends.
“We are Ambassadors for Christ. An ambassador does not assimilate into a foreign culture; they represent the interests of their home nation. Likewise, Christians must represent God’s Kingdom in every sphere of influence,” he emphasised.
He concluded with a call to action, urging participants to move out of passivity and embrace disciplined spiritual practices—prayer, fasting, and meditation—as essential tools for surviving and thriving in a secular world.
The CME-Francophone conference brings together ministers and their spouses from French-speaking nations for spiritual renewal, leadership development, and mission advancement, with a focus on empowering the Church to transform society.
