The Madina Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Martin Seth Appiah, has declared that the mystery behind the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ goes beyond human understanding, describing it as God’s hidden wisdom that could not be comprehended by humans, Satan, or even angels.
He made this assertion on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Madina No. 1 School during the climax of the Madina Area Easter Convention (Akan Zone), held under the theme, “The Cross! Our Hope, Our Healing, Our Victory,” with references from Numbers 21:8-9, Isaiah 53:5, Luke 23:43, and 1 Peter 2:24.
Expounding on the theme, Apostle Appiah explained that the mystery surrounding the cross, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ had been predestined and prophesied by great prophets in the Bible. He described the events of the cross as God’s hidden wisdom and strategic plan to demonstrate His sovereign power to deliver humanity from the bondage of sin, redeem mankind from the captivity of the devil, and restore humanity to a rightful relationship with God, leading to hope, healing, victory, and eternal salvation.
Drawing from Luke 24:1-12, John 3:14-16, and 1 Peter 1:10-12, he noted that Satan and the powers of this world, including those who orchestrated the humiliation, crucifixion, and death of Jesus Christ, did not fully understand their actions. He explained that had they known that the crucifixion of Christ would result in the liberation, healing, victory, and eternal salvation of humankind, they would not have carried out their plans.
Reading from Isaiah 53:3-8, Apostle Appiah illustrated how Jesus Christ was foretold to be despised, rejected, pierced, crushed, oppressed, and afflicted in the hands of religious and political leaders. He explained that God incarnated in Christ Jesus, taking the form of a servant and allowing His immortal Son to become vulnerable and subject to suffering. He described this divine act as a profound mystery that even angels marvelled at, urging believers not to take the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ for granted.
Apostle Appiah, who is scheduled to retire from active ministry later this year after 37 years of dedicated service, admonished Christians to recognise their worth as people bought at the price of innocent blood. He encouraged believers to appreciate the sacrifice of Christ and to continually give thanks to God for the salvation secured through the cross.
He further explained that although the cross itself was an ordinary tree, its significance lies in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who hung upon it to bring liberation, hope, and salvation to humanity. He stressed that the death and resurrection of Christ have strengthened the Christian faith, made the preaching of the gospel relevant, and secured justification for believers.
Referencing 1 Corinthians 15, he noted that if Christ had not risen from the dead, the Christian faith would be futile and believers would remain in their sins. However, he affirmed that because Christ has risen, there is renewed hope for every believer, describing the resurrection as a mystery rooted in God’s secret wisdom that surpasses human comprehension.
The Missions Director of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe, also led the congregation in intensive prayers during the service.
