The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has declared that Christ Jesus fully satisfied every requirement for humanity’s redemption through His death, burial, and resurrection, securing complete freedom for believers.
“Christ’s redemptive work is rooted in the belief that, through His life, death, and resurrection, He accomplished the redemption of mankind, offering salvation from sin and reconciliation with God, he said.
Apostle Gyau Obuobi made these remarks in a live televised sermon on PENT TV during a ‘Special Evening Service With Chairman’ on Resurrection Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Speaking on the topic, “The Redeemed,” he noted that Christ’s redemptive work is central to Christian theology. According him, the need for redemption arose after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:6–8). However, he added that God immediately revealed His plan for restoration through the promise in Genesis 3:15, which was ultimately fulfilled in Christ Jesus through His death, burial, and resurrection.
“So, in Jesus Christ, our redemption is complete. The work He did on the cross—His death, burial, and resurrection—has brought us redemption,” he stressed.
Defining redemption as release or freedom on the payment of a price, the General Secretary quoted Romans 6:23, emphasising that death, as a result of sin, was the price needed to be paid for humanity’s redemption. He explained that Jesus paid the price by offering His life as a ransom (Mark 10:45 and 1 Timothy 2:5–6), thereby delivering believers from the power of sin and death.
Referencing Psalm 49:7–8, he affirmed the sufficiency of Jesus’ sacrifice in redeeming humanity, stating, “No other sacrifice apart from that of Jesus could have pleased God and brought us redemption.”
Explaining further, Apostle Obuobi cited Leviticus 25:47–49, illustrating how in the Old Testament—which was a shadow of the reality in the New Testament—a basic condition had to be fulfilled for any redemption, with the redeemer being a relative. He explained that Jesus fulfilled this condition by becoming a brother to believers, enabling Him to redeem them leaving no room for doubt, as recorded in Hebrews 2:11–17.
“We are the redeemed of God, and our redemption is complete. In Christ, we do not need any top-ups because all the conditions have been fulfilled, making our redemption legal,” he reiterated emphatically, urging believers to proclaim this truth (Psalm 107:1–3).
Apostle Obuobi reminded believers that, as the redeemed of God, they have the responsibility to reflect their new identity as new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). This, he emphasised, is achieved through the study of God’s Word (Psalm 119:9) and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
