The Buokrom Estate District Minister of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Benjamin Kwaku Amankwatia, has emphasised that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ provides a lasting solution to the problem of sin and death for believers.
He explained that, unlike the repeated sacrifices performed in the Old Testament, Jesus’ sacrifice was made once and for all to redeem humanity, making it a permanent relief from sin.
Referencing Isaiah 1:11–15, he noted that God had grown weary of sacrifices involving bulls, cows, pigeons, and goats, which led to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus to deal with sin completely.
Pastor Amankwatia made these remarks on Thursday morning, April 2, 2026, at the ongoing 2026 New Tafo Zone Easter Convention held at the Sepe Methodist School Park. The event, themed “Jesus Christ: Our High Priest,” is based on Hebrews 3:1 and 9:11.
He described Jesus Christ as the foundation of Christianity and explained that the name “Jesus” (Yeshua in Hebrew) means “the Lord saves,” reflecting His role as Saviour. He added that “Christ” (Christos in Greek) means “the Anointed One.”
Touching on the term “high priest,” he explained that it refers to one who serves as a personal attendant to God—an officer whose entire life is devoted to Yahweh. He stated that Jesus, as the High Priest, bears the burdens of humanity.
Quoting Exodus 28:1, he noted that priests are chosen from among men, which made it necessary for Jesus to become human in order to serve as High Priest. He stressed that through His sacrifice, Jesus redeemed humanity from the bondage of sin and granted believers direct access to God at all times, stating, “Jesus is the ultimate and perfect sacrifice.”
Expounding on the suffering of Christ, Pastor Amankwatia cited Philippians 2:6–11, explaining that although Jesus shared in God’s nature, He was stripped naked, mocked, beaten, and subjected to every form of humiliation for the sake of humanity.
He therefore admonished believers to take their Christian lives seriously and live in a way that reflects the salvation they have received through Christ.
