The Ashaiman Area Deacon of The Church of Pentecost, Elder Richard Dugan, has entreated Christian youth to remain consistent, diligent, and accountable in their workplaces, describing this approach as a vital means of treating their jobs as Kingdom assignments for societal transformation.
Speaking on the theme, “Living Spiritually in a Secular Environment: Approaching Your Job as a Kingdom Assignment” (Ephesians 2:20; Colossians 3:23–25) during Day Two of the 2026 PENSA Ghana Conference at the KNUST Campus in Kumasi, Elder Dugan explained that living spiritually in a secular world is a divine mandate, albeit a challenging one. He assured believers that the Spirit of God, which quickens mortal bodies, will guide them to fulfil this calling, ultimately bringing transformation and satisfaction.
“For the Church to march on, there is the need to approach your job as a Kingdom assignment,” he stated.
Elder Dugan, who also serves as a Board Member of the Pent Media Centre, highlighted the importance of demonstrating Christ-like virtues in secular environments. He noted that this requires the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, given the hostile opposition often faced by those who seek to uphold godly principles.
“The secular world is where anything is allowed except Christ. It is a world of laws, human systems, and policies—and it is within this world that we find the jobs we do,” he explained, adding, “We come to church and cry out to God, yet when we return to our workplaces, we fail to demonstrate Christ-like virtues. It is just like Peter’s story, where he denied Jesus in the secular world. Living spiritually is only possible when you encounter the Holy Spirit.”
Reflecting on the Youth Ministry’s vision—“A holistically empowered youth living for Christ Jesus everywhere,” Elder Dugan challenged young believers to live for Christ wherever they find themselves, viewing their careers as an extension of ministry for clarity, purpose, and fulfilment.
He also referenced Vision 2028 of The Church of Pentecost, which calls Christians to be the salt and light of the world by transforming society through Kingdom principles and values. He urged participants to “preach the gospel by any means necessary—in word and in action.”
“The power of the gospel is in your mouth, and your work is not a coincidence; you are placed there for a purpose,” he affirmed.
“Remember, Jesus publicly bought you and publicly disarmed the enemy. The salvation you enjoy today was made public, and that calls for the need to live publicly for Him.”
Elder Dugan concluded by calling on all believers to understand the purpose of their calling and strive to fulfil it.
