NLC URGES MORTUARY WORKERS TO SUSPEND INTENDED STRIKE

The National Labour Commission has urged the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) to halt its plans to embark on a strike. The association has threatened to strike from Thursday, October 1, as a result of failure on the part of the Ministry of Health to address their demands for improved conditions of service. Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, Ofosu Asamoah, said the Commission will on Friday, October 2 meet the Mortuary Workers Association to have outstanding matters resolved. “We’ve asked them to hold onto the strike whilst the commission hears this matter… You cannot be on strike and still be appearing before the Commission so the only way they can have the matter heard is to suspend the strike,” he explained. Members of the committee set up to advise the government on the reopening of schools have submitted their report to the Minister of Education. Chaired by a former Minister of Education and chairman of the GETFund Board of Trustees. Prof. Dominic Fobih, the committee was tasked to come up with modalities for the reopening of schools after their closure in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Road crashes are the major contributor of accident-related deaths in Ghana. The Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada made this known on Citi TV’s Point of View. “Our findings indicate that 66% of accidental deaths in the country come from road crashes.
