Here are the top 10 emerging technologies for 2023, according to the World Economic Forum

International, Science & Technology
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released its annual report on the top ten emerging technologies for 2023. This report, which has been published since 2011, aims to identify technologies that have the potential to transform economies and societies. The WEF gathers input from academics, industry leaders and futurists to compile this list, providing valuable insights into the technologies that could shape our future. Over the years, the WEF’s report has accurately predicted the impact of various emerging technologies. For instance, in 2015, the report highlighted CRISPR-Cas9, a genetic-engineering tool that went on to win the Nobel Prize and is now being used for creating insect and drought-resistant crops. Similarly, in 2017, the report featured messenger Ribonucleic Acid (mRN...
The science behind Yoga; benefits to immunity and quality of life

The science behind Yoga; benefits to immunity and quality of life

Health & Wellbeing, International
Yoga has evolved to become one of the most commonly used complementary and alternative health practices in the world. Today, Yoga is even more popular than chiropractic adjustments, osteopathic manipulations, meditation, herbal treatments and massage therapy. A 2012 article in the New York Times authored by William J. Broad, created a controversy on Yoga suggesting that some people get seriously injured, or even die, on their Yoga mats.  How true is this? Our extensive review of literature revealed that the article by William Broad, adapted from the book The Science of Yoga: The Risks and Rewards, which suggested that Yoga caused widespread harm to its practitioners; from ruptured disks to stroke to brain injury, was largely based on selected anecdotes.  That sa...

Ghana News, World News
The Government of Ghana has received approval for $200 million financing from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Ghana Tree Crop Diversification Project (TCDP) to diversify and grow its economy through modernizing agriculture to accelerate productivity, resilience, and industrialization. This financing will directly benefit 12,800 cocoa farmers and 39,975 cashew, coconut, and rubber farmers, and their households. An additional 20,000 jobs are expected to be created in downstream value addition by mobilizing private capital. Nearly 40 percent of on-farm beneficiaries will be women. While Ghana’s tree crops sector plays an enormous role in agriculture and the economy, the sector can contribute more substantially to Ghana’s economy and society than it currently does...

ABIDJAN TO HOST 45TH CAF GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON JULY 13

International, Pent TV, Sports
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has settled on Cote D’Ivoire as the host country for the 45th CAF General Assembly. The Assembly which was originally scheduled for Benin will now take place in Abidjan due to unavailability of venue in Cotonou following a recent visit by CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba. The process of identifying a new venue took into account the statement by President Dr. Patrice Motsepe that ‘’the hosting of CAF competitions and events should be rotated and held in all the 6 CAF Zones without compromising the quality and the world-class infrastructure and facilities in which CAF competitions and events should take place’’. After assessing the hotels, infrastructure and facilities of some of the proposed venues, the CAF Secretariat settled o...

Facebook and Instagram to restrict news access in Canada

Facebook and Instagram to restrict news access in Canada

International, Science & Technology
Meta has said it will begin to restrict news on its platforms to Canadian consumers after parliament passed a controversial online news bill. The bill forces big platforms to compensate news publishers for content posted on their sites. Meta and Google have both already been testing limiting access to news to some Canadians. In 2021, Australian users were blocked from sharing or viewing news on Facebook in response to a similar law. Canada’s Online News Act, which cleared the senate on Thursday, lays out rules requiring platforms like Meta and Google to negotiate commercial deals and pay news organisations for their content. Meta has called the law “fundamentally flawed legislation that ignores the realities of how our platforms work”. On Thursday, it said news availabili...

PRAISE RELOADED WAS REALLY LOADED – PART ONE

Ghana News, Lifestyle & Social, Pent TV
It's been a long while since I attended a worship event. However, today gave me one of the rare opportunities to join Minister Joe Mettle's Praise Reloaded at the Oil Dome at the Royal House Chapel here in Accra Earlier on, Minister Joe Mettle had joined us on Tuesday on LET US WORSHIP on PENT TV to give us a foretaste of what had been incubated for the release today. And I must confess that indeed Praise RELOADED was a comprehensive, holistic and mind-blowing package. ARRIVAL & PROTOCOLSMy wife and I arrived at the event quite early and from my observation, it was clear that the team Joe Mettle and the organizers started the event on time. From the look of things, one could tell that many people were highly enthusiastic of the programme and their sense of hunger drove i...
