The Church of Pentecost has been commended for its contributions to the spiritual, educational and socio-economic development of Daboya in the Savannah Region.
The commendation came from the Gabasowurah and Divisional Chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area, Chief Salifu J.J., during the dedication of a newly constructed mission house at Daboya on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The ceremony brought together church leaders, members, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to celebrate the Church’s growth and impact in the area.
Chief Salifu J.J. noted that the Church had become an important development partner in the community through its commitment to evangelism, discipleship, education and social transformation.
Reflecting on the history of Christianity in Daboya, he recalled that the faith had faced considerable opposition in the past. He observed, however, that the situation had improved significantly over the years, leading to greater acceptance of Christianity and the continued spread of the gospel.
The chief also commended the Church’s preparatory school for its contribution to education in Daboya and neighbouring communities. He described the school as the best-performing in the area in terms of academic achievement.
In recognition of the Church’s impact and the leadership of the Tamale Area Head, Apostle John Budu Kobina Tawiah, the chief conferred on him the traditional title “Checheso-Wura,” meaning “Helper.” He explained that the title acknowledged the Apostle’s support for the growth of the Church and its contribution to the welfare of the people.
The honour was accompanied by the presentation of a traditional smock to Apostle Tawiah. The chief also acknowledged the contributions of past and present ministers of the Daboya District to the growth of the Church in the area.
In his response, Apostle Tawiah expressed gratitude to the chief and the people of Daboya for the recognition, emphasising that the honour extended beyond him to the many ministers who had served in the district over the years and laid the foundation for the progress being witnessed today.
He reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to working with traditional authorities and the wider community to promote development, improve livelihoods and advance the gospel.
The ceremony ended with thanksgiving to God for the growth of The Church of Pentecost in Daboya, alongside prayers for continued progress and greater impact in the years ahead.
