Cedi appreciation not by chance, government will sustain gains – Akufo-Addo

Ghana News, Headlines Today
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that the appreciation of the cedi against all major trading currencies is a result of deliberate policy interventions introduced by Government over the last few months. According to President Akufo-Addo, “the strengthening of the cedi has not happened by chance, but through the implementation of deliberate policies by Government, in collaboration with the Bank of Ghana.” These measures, he said, include “cedi liquidity tightening measures, resulting in the offloading of forex as a store of value by speculators; the improvement of forex flows from remittances and the mining sector; and the reaching of a staff level agreement with the IMF for a US$3 billion package.” The President made this known on Sunday, December 18, 2022,...

2022 FIFA World Cup: Messi leads Argentina to third title after penalties win over France

International, Sports
Lionel Messi has led Argentina to World Cup glory after beating France on penalties in one of the most thrilling climaxes in the tournament’s history. Argentina looked to have thrown the trophy away, after Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the last 10 minutes to take the tie into extra time, after a Messi penalty and a sweeping finish from Angel di Maria had seen the Argentines 2-0 up in the first half. Messi restored their lead in the extra period, before Mbappe stunned the South Americans again from the penalty spot to force a shootout with his third – the first hat-trick in a World Cup final since 1966. But Kingsley Coman had his penalty saved by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano MArtinez, and Aurelien Tchouameni then missed the target, allowing Gonzalo Montiel fire home the winner an...

Ukraine war: Oil prices rise as cap on Russian crude looms

International
Oil prices have risen after major producers agreed to continue to cut output and the G7 and its allies said they will cap the price of Russian oil. Brent crude rose by about 0.6% to above $86 a barrel on Monday morning. On Friday, the G7 agreed to cap the price of Russian oil at $60 a barrel to raise pressure on Russia over the invasion of Ukraine. Meanwhile, oil producers’ group Opec+ said at the weekend it would stick to its policy of reducing output. Opec+ is a group of 23 oil-exporting countries, including Russia, which meets regularly to decide how much crude oil to sell on the world market. “This decision by Opec+ to keep the quota where it is… is by itself an implicit sort of support to the oil market,” Kang Wu of S&P Global Commodity Insights told the BBC. Where Is Your Light In This Dark World? – Apostle Nyamekye To Christians

Ghana News, Pentecost News
The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has urged Christians to live up to their divine role as light of the world to dispel the increasing darkness (evil) in the world. According to Apostle Nyamekye, in the Old Testament, God used the Israelites to reflect the light, which is His glory, to the world. He, however, noted that the order changed when Jesus Christ came and instructed believers to be agents of change and the light to the world. “Jesus told his believers to go into the nations to possess every sphere; with us in the world, we become the light of the world,” he stated. He said this on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the Akim Oda Central Auditorium, during his working tour in the Akim Oda Area. Explaining the rationale of the 2023 theme, the C...
