Stop the display of foodstuffs on the floor – FDA tells traders

Ghana News, Health & Wellbeing
Traders at the Ho Central Market have been asked to get their wares off the ground to promote the standards required in food safety.  The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) gave the directive during a durbar in the Volta Region, held at the frontage of the market, to mark the World Food Safety Day, where stakeholders raised concerns over how food was displayed on the ground for sale.  Streets, lanes and alleys of the large market are taken over by hundreds of sellers, the majority of whom spread their wares on the bare floor, while pedestrians avoid trampling on them, especially on market days, which come every four days.  Mr Gorden Akurugu, the Volta Regional Head, FDA, said the practice subjected the food to extreme contamination and should be avoided.  The F...

Malaria elimination has an impact on countries economic growth – Centre for Malaria Research reveals

Analysis of malaria data from 180 countries shows that every 10 percent reduction in malaria cases was associated with an average rise of 0.3 percent in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The analysis shows that high burden, and low income countries have higher than average gains, in these countries same reduction in malaria was associated with an increase to the level of GDP per capita of nearly two percent. That indicates that those in charge of our economy must be interested in the national malaria Elimination agenda to strengthen efforts towards it. Professor Evelyn Ansah, Director Centre for Malaria Research at the University of Health, and Allied Sciences (UHAS) made this known at a virtual summit to mark the world mosquito day. She said the Elimination agenda calls for activ...

Scammer poses as ‘God’, asks woman for deposits at ‘Bank of Heaven’

International, Lifestyle & Social
A Spanish man stands accused of taking advantage of an overly-religious old woman by posing as her Lord and Savior and asking her to deposit money at His ‘Church of Heaven’. Could you say ‘no’ to God? What if He called you directly to ask for a favor? Esperanza, an elderly woman from León, in northwestern Spain, could not refuse God when He called her on her telephone and told her to put her savings in His ‘Church of Heaven’, because it offered better interest than earthly ones. The woman never once suspected that she was being scammed, as she was convinced that she was a ‘chosen of the Virgin’ long before receiving the call, so getting a direct call from the Almighty didn’t really seem that strange. Over six years, Esperanza followed God’s instructions and deposited around ...

A Barcelona man was sentenced to one year in prison after a court found that he had been terrorizing his neighbors for at least 5 years by playing loud electronic music almost non-stop. A court in Mataró (Barcelona), Spain recently ruled against a man who had reportedly been driving his neighbors crazy by playing electronic music at a loud volume. The nightmare of the man’s neighbors began 2012, when he started playing his unbearably loud music all day and night. Despite repeated requests to turn the volume down, as well as visits from the local police, the man refused to comply and people had no choice but to put up with it. In 2015, 3 neighbors who lived in a house attached to that of the accused filed a complaint against him, after having endured nearly 3 years of electronic music a...

He made this assertion today at the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Asokwa during the morning session of Day 2 of the “Greater Kumasi For Christ” Crusade. With Genesis 1:27-28 as a biblical foundation, Elder Tobbin illuminated the omnipresent blessings bestowed upon humanity by God. In his sermon, Elder Tobbin emphasised that the absence of visible wonders does not equate to the absence of God’s blessings. Drawing a parallel to the intangible yet undeniable components of human existence—the spirit and soul—he revealed that blessings from God are steadfast companions throughout life’s jour...
