A two-week free medical outreach at Abesewa in the Ashanti Region is expected to provide about 130 surgical procedures for residents and people from neighbouring communities.
The initiative, organised by Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS) in partnership with PENSA Ghana, PENSA International, Imaghe World and Mainline Health, Pennsylvania, is providing free medical screening, consultations, treatment and surgeries to people who require specialised care.
The medical team includes surgeons and medical doctors from Ghana and the United States, who are attending to patients with various conditions requiring surgical intervention.
Among the conditions targeted are thyroid disorders, hernia and fibroids, as well as other conditions identified through the screening exercise.
More than 300 residents underwent medical screening on the opening day, with additional beneficiaries expected as the outreach progresses.
The programme is also serving people from surrounding communities, including Bechem, offering access to specialised healthcare that may otherwise be beyond the reach of some residents due to financial constraints.
Organisers said the outreach was designed to respond to both immediate and critical healthcare needs, particularly for people who may have postponed treatment because of the cost of medical care.
Held under the theme, “Healing Bodies, Saving Souls,” the initiative also seeks to combine healthcare delivery with Christian ministry and evangelism.
The two-week programme will continue with medical screening, consultations, treatment and surgical procedures for beneficiaries from Abesewa and adjoining communities.
