The Pentecost Senior High School (PENSEC) in Kumasi has organised a day retreat for its staff members to seek the face of the Lord for effective service.
The retreat, held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Hephzibal Assembly auditorium, was themed “Empowered by the Holy Spirit For Service,” (Daniel 6:3 and Genesis 39:2-3). It was attended by both teaching and non-teaching staff.
During the first sermon at the event, Pastor Mathias Wornu, the School Chaplain, emphasised the significance of remaining connected to God, the ultimate source of power, to excel in any responsibilities assigned to individuals, drawing from Daniel’s story in Daniel 6:3.
He explained that Daniel distinguished himself and excelled in all his endeavours because there was an excellent Spirit in him, which he received from God through constant prayer. He urged the attendees to be consistent with prayer, regardless of the circumstances.
“As a mission school, we cannot do away with prayer and be successful,” he pointed out, stressing the consequences of being disconnected from God.
Pastor Isaac Koda Plange of Achawso District in the Suame Area, delivered a second sermon based on Genesis 39:2-6. He illustrated how Joseph prospered and became a source of blessings to the household of Potiphar because the Lord was with him. He highlighted the benefits of maintaining a close relationship with God, stating, “Once God is with you, you must also be with Him for continued blessings.”
As part of the event, an open discussion session was held, allowing participants to reflect on the sermons and share insights for practical application in their lives.
In his closing remarks, Elder Albert Mensah, the Headmaster of the school, expressed his satisfaction with the attendance and thanked the participants for their cooperation. He reiterated the need for seeking God’s presence in all facets of life, saying, “It is the Spirit that makes the difference.”
Additionally, he urged attendees to make positive affirmations about their lives, referencing Numbers 14:28.
The euphoria that characterised the event was a testament to the fact that the participants left the retreat feeling fully refreshed and prepared for service.
