Black Stars coach Otto Addo has reportedly been retained by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the submission of his technical report on Wednesday.
After a lengthy meeting, sources within the GFA’s Executive Council disclosed that they have decided to maintain him as the head coach of the Black Stars.
Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract in March 2024, with an option for an additional two years, returned for a second stint after Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast under Chris Hughton.
Addo’s tenure began promisingly with victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, reigniting the hopes of Ghanaians for a spot in the tournament. However, his AFCON qualifying campaign was underwhelming, with Ghana failing to secure a win—recording three losses, three draws, and scoring just three goals.
Despite the mixed results, Addo has received support from key figures in Ghanaian football, including former internationals Laryea Kingston and Ibrahim Tanko, both of whom are now coaches.
The GFA is reportedly giving him another opportunity, expecting him to maintain Ghana’s momentum in the World Cup qualifiers and secure a place in the 2026 tournament to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Additionally, there are indications that changes will be made to Addo’s backroom staff, with plans to bring in a technical advisor to strengthen the team’s management.
